Why We're Different At Trophy
|
Trophy Bikes is an independent bicycle shop incorporated in 1998. We believe all cycling is traveling—and that every trip should be special—whether it's a trip around the block, the track or the world. We stock bikes for going to the grocery store, we also sell high-performance bicycles for racing or touring. You can get a classic Brooks leather saddle here, or the latest titanium components—tradition and technology both are welcome inside this shop. (In fact, we sell a Brooks leather saddle with titanium rails!) There have never been more great products for making bicycling better—baskets, bells, fenders, cyclocomputers, even tires are available in thousands of varieties. This can be overwhelming—and expensive if you get things that don't do what you want. At Trophy Bikes, we test these products, listen to hundreds of reports from our customers and friends, and use that knowledge to help you choose. We see bikes and tires, components and clothing when they're new—and years later. We learn how they work in the real world. Opinions, backed with experience, can make your biking better. Okay, what sort of bikes will I find at Trophy?

First of all, you'll find "city bikes". These are bikes made for utility — to make short trips in comfort and safety. Some of these bikes are stable by design and best for moderate speeds. Others can go quite fast if you want to have fun on the weekend. Some examples: JAMIS Commuter 2.0. Hybrid design, simple and durable, $415, complete with fenders. Breezer Citizen, Villager, Uptown. These Townbikes combine mountain and commuter bike features and are fully equipped with Fenders, lights, rack, kickstand, etc. Looking to live without a car? The Breezer is a great replacement. From $799 to $1049.
SWOBO Otis--a 3-speed with front disc? Rear rack? Coaster-brake 3-speed hub that really works? Yes, yes and yes. It's $699 and it's what Raleigh would be making if they were still really Raleigh. |

Cyclocross and Touring bikes. Our favorite type of bike—road bikes designed to take a bigger, tougher tire, and rougher handling than their sleek, road-only cousins. Some examples: Fuji Touring. A 27-speed, true long distance touring bike that would also make fast commuters or weekend club riders happy. About $849. Jamis Aurora. Takes a 27-speed, cyclocross bike design and adds all the fittings needed to add racks and fenders. Or leave the bike stripped down and enjoy going fast on tracks and trails—much more versatile than a mt. bike. About $850. Surly Crosscheck. Surly's take on the cyclo-tourer. Biggest tire clearance of any road/'cross bike, nice touches like a crowned fork and tough frame design. Get it as a complete bike for about $959 or build it up from a frame/fork (about $449). Gunnar Crosshairs. One of our biggest sellers, this 'cross/light tourer, fast commuter frame is made at the legendary Waterford Precision shops—founded by Richard Schwinn. The Crosshairs U.S.-made frame/fork sells for about $975; complete bikes from about $1999. |

We are specialists in a new and growing type of bicycle—the "compact bike". These are bikes with wheels of 20" or less. They usually fold or disassemble for commuting or travel. Trophy carries the largest selection of compact bicycles in the U.S. Some examples: Dahon Curve D3. Cheap and cheery folding bike. A good solution for commuters on a tight budget. $399. Dahon makes more than a dozen folder models — we stock the best and can order the rest. Bike Friday. These custom bicycles can be knocked down and shipped in a sleek suitcase. When you get to Paris, or Toronto or Boston — the case turns into a trailer that tows behind your bike. From $1599 to $4000.
Wait--NEW FROM FRIDAY--it's the TIKIT!
Folds faster (somehow) than a Brompton. Great road manners, and starts at $1199, nicely equipped.
Brompton. British-made, world-famous as the all-round best folding bicycle made. Ease of fold, snappy handling and durability have made the Brompton our best-selling compact bicycle. From $1049 to $1599 for the standard models--and from $1649 to $2300 for their new titanium series.
