OK, we’re back in the PHILLY BIKE EXPO again! Nov. 5-6, 2016

We have never missed a single episode of the Philly Bike Expo, starting when it looked like this:

Awww, wasn’t that cute?   Now the Expo is in a bigger-than-ever space at the Convention Center, with more top cycling companies, advocates and artisans than ever before — We will be there with bells on, showing off the new BROMPTON BICYCLE 2017 models which have some notable design changes, which is just about all we can say about that for the moment!  Trophy Bikes will again be leading the Brommie Breakfast Roll from 30th Street Station to the Expo, using a rather circuitous path, and celebrating Brompton Saturday and Surly Sunday–more details on all that in our next postings. But do please plan to come to the best bike show on the East Coast.   cheers,

   — mcget & the cast and crew at Trophy Bikes 712 N. 2nd St. Phila. PA

HAPPY THANKSGIVING (and see you Saturday!)

Do please note that we will be closed for Thanksgiving and also for the artificial shopping frenzy session that some call Black Friday.  We think you should refrain from shopping on those days; if enough of us do so, the big boxes will let their staff enjoy the holiday with their families.  Then come to us on Saturday and just let that debit card rip!

We’ll also have some fun rides.

Saturday, there is a Brompton Breakfast Roll to the Bike Expo. Meets 9 a.m. sharp inside Amtrak 30th St. Station (at the central info booth). NOTE: your Brompton bicycle gets you into the Expo free, including secure indoor bike parking.

Sunday morning, DO the BUMP! This challenging ride will tackle a choice selection of Philadelphia’s oldest cobbled, brick-paved, crumbling historic streets. We rumble over the roughest roads in Kensington and Old City before arriving at the Philly Bike Expo. There will be priceless Swag thanks to Surly Bikes. MEETS 8:45 sharp at Trophy Bikes, 712 N. 2nd St. NOTE: we strongly recommend min. tire size of 2″/38mm AND helmet, spare tubes, gloves and sense of humor. Please check in at our FB Events Page!

SURLY SUNDAY AT THE EXPO If you’re riding your Surly bike on Sunday, your ticket is free. Head straight for the heavily-guarded indoor valet bike parking and show them your ticket for free admission.

The GGBW started out in 1996 as a nostalgic event for riders of classic English roadster 3-speed bicycles, and did pretty well for years, even getting some serious press from the Philadelphia Inquirer HERE.   For 2015, we’re opening things up a bit and inviting owners of new machines to attend: That means Brompton folders, Moulton Spaceframes, and of course, the shiny new Pashley roadsters that look as if they rolled straight out of a 1930s factory. If you own an older bicycle, an F-frame Moulton, say, or a Raleigh Supercourse, Clubman or Tourist, we’d like to see you. Ditto if you’re pedaling a Bickerton, Lenton Sports or BSA. If it’s made in the UK and it pedals, the British Bike Weekend will offer you a ride, a cup of tea and something stronger during the Great British Bike & Pub Crawl which starts Saturday afternoon. On Saturday morning, we’ll pay visits by bicycle to three Philadelphia shops with strong UK connections: Via Bicycle, Firth & Wilson, and Trophy Bikes. All events start/finish close to center city Philadelphia.   Please visit/like/share our Facebook Event page for a full schedule and to RSVP! Oh, and please note that workshops are open to all, but for our rides, we ask that you be aboard an English-made bicycle; thanks for your cooperation in that respect.

With Kind Regards, — Michael McGettigan / Trophy Bikes, LLC

When you close the street to cars, look what ends up happening... @visionzero @bicyclecoalition @phillyfreestreets @phillypedals @streetsdept @philaparkandrec
Hmmm, make up your mind, One Riverside!
One of Philadelphia's most preposterous pieces of public art, "Freedom", by Zenos Frudakis--or "Four Stages of the Brompton Unfold" -- as we call it!
MIRACLES HAPPEN! Went back an hour later, thinking, "Maybe I move these steenkeeng cones again..." and -Dag!- the contractors had apparently heeded my cranky, "Someone's gonna get killed here..." and brought more cones and properly protected the bike lane. Yeah, the Lane Closed Ahead sign could be in a better spot--but there's actual biking room. Thanks, Contractor Guys! @bicyclecoalition @schuylkillsarah @phillypedals
SO I MOVED THE CONES--they protected (for 10 minutes, anyway) the bike lane and slowed the motorists down and they merged properly--OF COURSE--a stubborn hard hat stomped up and moved them back. Now it's a scary conflict zone again. "I do this for a living" he said flatly. Good for you, sport--you're still wrong!. .... @bicyclecoalition @stuartleonbicyclecrashlaw @uofpenn @upenninstagram @phillypedals
South Street Bridge Crap Shoot: Schuylkill Ave is closed for street work--contractors ignored cyclists, used cones to turn bike lane into a nasty auto merge zone. WTF! Even more dangerous when the light is green. NO TIME or SPACE for bikes-- BUT CHECK THE NEXT 2 POSTS...! ... @bicyclecoalition @randylobasso @phillymayor @schuylkillsarah @denadriscoll @upenn_instagram
NO. Left-side, 2-block-long bike lane past diagonal parking... drivers will not have line of sight to see cyclists. And cyclists must cross two lanes to take the needed right onto Spring Garden bike lanes. But the SEPTA-Bus-First policy rules. Infra-Stubture. Screw you @bicyclecoalition @carimpunity @visionzero @septaphilly
Sunday, 4:30 pm, Spruce St. bike lane and a devout motorist parked with Delaware plates--and not even a church placard. @bicyclecoalition @phillypedals @phillymayor
Join in West Philly next Tuesday, Oct. 25 -- at Local 44; this free letter-writing session is sponsored by Yards Brewing and Trophy Bikes. We start promptly at 7pm, and bike our bundle of mail to the letter-box a bit after 9.
